hi neil
you will be extreamly luky now days to get a apprentice ship in signwriting the old guy that taught me served 20 yrs apprentisship but we are talking about the 1930 there
i know plymouth collage used to do a sign work course not sure if they do it now or not but you could always try contacting them
in the painting and decorating dept
they used to do mainly because of the dock yard and the apprentices in there going to collage a cple of days a week
other than that all i can say is keep practiceing thats all and get yrself known by word of mouth first
good luck
any other questions just ask

well i had a appreticship in plymouth dock yard but due to govement cuts back in the 80s i had to go it on my own
i have met a few that are self taught and you can tell
wot they lerned me was basic letter shapes master them then you can almost tackle any thing
one thing they didnt learn me was how to bloody spell lol

Hi Neil-Sadly the apprenticeship's are as few and far as the firms to offer them_ I suffered exactly the same in 1991-
Stick at it mate- and maybe you'll be lucky
