Hello everyone!

Relatively new here. I've only been on a couple of times but never posted. Anyways, let me introduce myself - my name is Rich Flint. I operate a small custom home based sign shop in Oxford, Massachusetts USA. I've been in the sign business since '73 BC (before computers). In the early days I was very fortunate to have been formally trained with paint and brush by an old master signwriter and fabricator who took me under his wing. With his skillful knowledge and experience he inspired and motivated me to suceed in all facets of the trade.

Looking back now, I guess I was pretty lucky to have all those early years of one on one training. To this day most of my work still comes from repeat customers and their referrals. However, unlike the years past most of the jobs nowadays involve the computer in one way or another.

Yes, the times they are a changing!

Thanks for letting me ramble a bit.

Rich

Hello Rich,

Had a glimpse of your work in your other post, quite good! Post some more, I know I'd love to see them. It appears you are primarily into commercial wood signs. What would a person in the UK use in place of MDO? I hear MDO isn't available there.

Thank you Dave.....appreciate the kinds words. Although I do love working on dimensional wood signs, it's not the only thing we do. We've downsized over the years but we still do a variety of other types of work so I guess we could still be classified as a full service sign company.

:confused:As for your question about MDO....wasen't aware it's not availabe in the UK since I'm from New England?

ALSO....An obvus Hello to cool strokes! Thanks again guys!

Oxford, Massachusetts USA -- missed that. I'll need to ask that of others.

Do you get in to any carving?

Yes I do Dave. Even though those new CNC routers can do amazing stuff, I still prefer the ol' "hands on" method with a chisel. I find it to be very therapeutic.

You can check out some more of my work at www.flintsigns.com

One of these days I have to post a photo of myself but until then I guess you'll have to suffer looking at Buddy....besides he's much better looking than I am!
