These new signs for a beachfront motel went up on Friday. Sunday night we had a whopper of a storm, but the customer hasn't called to say they blew down, so I think I'm safe!
The old signs were carved from pine by a Massachusetts company about fifteen years ago. We refinished them five years ago and filled some rather large decay cavities. In December the customer called and decided to replace them and upgrade with a new logo as well.
The new signs are entirely man-made materials; sign-foam, dibond and aluminum - no more rot! The raised letters were router cut and hand carved and are gilded with 12k white gold, cleared with Frog Juice. The "wave" was also roughed out on the router, hand carved, coated with Magic Smooth and painted. The larger background is a panel built of factory-finished blue dibond on an aluminium frame. The new signs went up in place of the old ones on the existing brick pillars.
I'll be going back to paint the steel brackets next week or whenever the bloody monsoons are over, whichever comes first.
