It's vinyl but it's something to be proud of.

The hardest vinyl to fit to vehicles (and conform to panels) is Monomeric calendered. So I decided to fit a logo (Dewi's design) to a van (belongs to a signmaker new to the trade) in 3 layers or this stuff all at once.

Then we decided that the van would be the one with the biggest and deepest recesses on the market - the Toyota Hiace Powervan.

The whole thing isn't fitted yet - just the logo but it took 3 hours just for this one logo and I had to get home sometime soon.

MMMM. just a thought...When i paint something like that I increase the width of some of the stokes if they cross one of thoe big recesses- ( so that from the front it appears as I intended)

I'm thinking that if thats cut vinyl..would you work out where those fatter areas of vinyl would need to be and add them into the design before it was cut..and then bent round those recesses???

No wayne, as a vinyl fitter I'd tend to ignore the recesses as if they didn't exist. I think you just need to choose a place it's going to look right from and fit it. In this case (and as I usually do) I chose the side view so no change was made to the vinyl.

I see where you are coming from though. I might not look as 'right' from the front but it's readable so that's all we woried about.

my philosophy, ignore the contours, it’s a great fit chunkie, although I might have either gone smaller fitting the top & bottom curns of the "S" into the outer edges of the panels allowing negative space to sides & top, would still be an intense recess fit & compliment the logo edges & panel design, or just gone massive cut around the windows and angled with header & footer negative space, allowing for wider contouring as Wayne suggested.
I appreciate its just phase one of the design, (still needs negative space- white space- breathing space, as SignCraft works are suggested as you avidly follow) will be good to see finished with second copy, just my take chunkie, we all got our way of working, any other views ?

It's not my design Pete - Dewi and I created a design each and this one won (the van owner Matt chose it) Mine had negative space, balance of design, all the lovely things I expect to see in a design. Dewis is much more than the sum of it's parts and meets those rules too in most cases. This is just the logo and there's much more to go onto the vehicle yet. Wait to see it finished for the design side.
