Suck precision on those letters. Wow! Go on, admit it, you used a vinyl mask didn't you? Please say you did so I don't feel inferior!

Hey Chunkie, don't feel inferior, of course I used mask. On location, with all those outlines and a matte center, I would be foolish not to. In the 25 years I've been making signs, the one thing I learned is how to work smarter, not harder. I readily admit I have embraced the technology that the sign profession has offered. For me, it really doens't matter how the sign is done, as long as I am satified with the result. I'll be the first to pull out the vinyl mask to do a gold leaf job, or vinyl to do text on a sign. On the other hand, on large or custom work, or if I want a real casual or loose feel to a sign...I feel extreamly fortunate that I have learned the sign profession before computer technology became prevalant and made hundreds if not thousands of signs with the simple but powerful tool of the brush.

That's good to hear Dave. What a marvellously liberating statement you just made. I'm going to do some masked stuff while I get my hand in as it were. I'd alway assumed it was frowned upon.

Hi Chunk.
As dave says why have the technology and not use it to your advantage.
We've had our computer a few years now, before that some of the jobs were very tedious, lines and lines of helvetica. At the end of the day if your happy and the customer likes the job whats the problem.
We're in the same position as alot on this site and can put our hand to painted work when needed, but do use masks to quicken the process.

It's down to time and thats money.

Hey Chunkie,
Lots of times I use a paint mask and then come back and do a freehand shadow. I agree with Dave, do anything necessary to facilitate the job.
